2330 N Highland Avenue
This two story
Mediterranean Revival style commercial/apartment building graces the northwest
corner across from Highland Park. Built in 1925 as the Park Villa, it originally
housed three businesses and nine apartments.
Most of the residents used the streetcar that looped around the park and
the businesses offered goods and services marketed to streetcar commuters. The
three stores changed hands often, but the building originally housed the
Community Gift and Needlework shop, a confectionery and a textile store.
After the first year,
occupants changed from grocery stores, barbers, drug stores, and
dressmakers, although the Mayfair Beauty Salon stayed through the 1930s and
1940s. Today, the Serralles Real Estate Group occupies the commercial section.
